About the Commission - * Structure

 

The National Commission comprises highly competent persons drawn from various governmental and non-governmental agencies, as well as individuals in their personal capacity whose expertise is critical to the successful implementation of the programmes and activities of UNESCO.

The organs of the National Commission are as follows:

General Assembly :

Comprises all members of the Commission and meets at least once a year to approve the report of activities of the Commission, as well as, to prepare the future programme.

Executive Committee:

Composed of the Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, the Chairpersons of the Sub-Commissions, the Secretary General and other members elected or designated by the General Assembly. The Minister for Education, Human Resource Development, Youth and Sports is the Chairperson of the Executive Committee.

Sub-Commissions

The Sub-Commissions comprise highly competent persons drawn from various governmental and non-governmental agencies, as well as individuals in their personal capacity, whose expertise is critical to the successful implementation of the programmes and activities of UNESCO Member States. 

In accordance with UNESCO's Charter of National Commissions for UNESCO, the St. Lucia National Commission has established five sub-commissions:

1. Education
2. Science
3. Culture
4. Communications, Information and Informatics
5. Human and Social Sciences

Permanent Secretariat

It comprises the Secretary General and staff, necessary to ensure the permanent  functioning  of  the  National  Commission.  The Government of Saint Lucia provides the National Commission with its personnel, premises and financial resources to permit it to conduct its activities
