The St. Lucia National Commission for UNESCO was officially established on 2nd February 1981, with the primary objective of serving as the agency for developing and promoting UNESCO’s programmes and activities in St. Lucia.
Cabinet Conclusion No. 1170 of 26th November 1980 approved the setting up of this office and authorized the necessary resources for its functioning.
The first officers of the National Commission included:
1. Dr. Kenny Anthony, Chairman, National Commission (ex-officio, who was then Minister of Education and Culture)
2. Mr. Hilary Darcheville, Vice Chairman (ex-officio, Ag. Permanent Secretary of the Ministry at the time)
3. Mrs. Aldith Isaac, ex-officio Secretary General (then Assistant Secretary of the Ministry)
In 1986, Ms. Lawrence Laurent was appointed as the first full-time Secretary General of the National Commission. |
